My Pet Playbook Pros and Cons for the SmartyKat Hot Pursuit Toy

Pros

Encourages Exercise

The toy encourages indoor cats to run, chase, and pounce, adding much-needed exercise to their day.

Two Speeds Available

Two speed settings let you choose a gentler pace for shy cats or a faster pace for high-energy cats.

Easy to Assemble

Most purchasers found that it was very easy to assemble and were able to start using it within a few minutes.

Repeated Engagement

Many owners report that their cats stay engaged and come back to the toy repeatedly over time.

But quite a few owners reported that it kept their cat's attention initially, but interest decreased after the first one or two play sessions.

Cons

Noticeable Clicking Sounds

The sound of the motor can be very loud and there are noticeable clicking sounds while using the product, especially on hard floors or when a cat pins the wand.

Replacement Parts

The wand and fabric cover can wear out or tear easily over time, and replacement parts are not always easy to find.

Pet Preferences

Some cats lose interest after the first burst of excitement, especially if they prefer toys controlled by a person.

Predictable Movements

The movement follows a continuous circular path, which can feel predictable for very athletic or clever cats, and cause them to lose interest.

Real Experience Review

Since I am a dog and not a cat owner, I enlisted a friend who has owned a cat for over four years to try it for two weeks. Like many of the customers reviewed, she was not impressed with the quality of the toy. It stopped working by the end of the first week.  She also said it was very loud and, at times, would startle or scare her cat.  For the most part, the cat was not engaged by the toy.  Her cat would show interest for about the first 5 minutes of play and then walk away.
